EvangelismEvangelism is more than sharing our faith with an unbeliever or giving out tracts or Christian literature. Rather, we have well over seventy (70) strategies and methodologies of evangelism outreaches pointing towards persuading our contacts to give Jesus a chance to rule in their lives as they surrender to His Lordship. While some strategies are cost-effective and can be carried out with little efforts and support. Others required a well detailed articulated planning and calculated steps to be able to record achievable results from them.

In some cases, equipment and materials must be in place with trained personnel in specific areas of work e.g.

  • Film-Show Evangelism
  • Open-Air Crusade
  • Market Evangelism
  • Door to Door Evangelism

While Market Evangelism or Door to Door simply require a sizeable number of Evangelists based on the coverage to reach out and share the good news.

The acceptance of the Gospel by our contacts through any method open us to a line –up of work to do through the process of establishing the converts in the faith, in so much that they can be deeply rooted to be deeply and well-grounded. Conversion goes so deep than what material world we see can explain.

It is a translation, a transformation, a transfer, an encounter, an experience, an exchange and above all; acquiring a brand new nature, therefore the Evangelist must be an authority in the scriptures to be able to persuade whosoever and from whatever background or exposure to know, understand and believe in Jesus Christ and accept Him through the knowledge of the bible that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life, no one cometh unto the Father except through Jesus Christ.

 

Components of Evangelism

DISCIPLESHIP

In the kingdom, discipleship can be likened to the structure constructed on the foundation of conversion of a soul who believed and confessed Jesus as Lord.

 

Discipleship: is the process of becoming like the master, learning the nature of the kingdom, being with the Lord as we build a deeper and intimate relationship with Jesus in studying the word in prayers and in following His steps. Discipleship demands so much from the followers of the Lord.

 

A disciple is required to deny himself, carry his cross and follow the Lord daily. It is no longer him that liveth but Christ liveth in him. The disciple is dead to the world and the world is dead to him.

Discipleship is not only having a thorough experience of God but that the root of sin is destroyed, the heart is fully circumcised, the Adamic nature indwelling in man is crushed, brokenness is enthroned in the heart and the life is entirely given to the service of the Lord absolutely.

The love of God reign supreme in the life of a disciple. Jesus says except you eat my flesh and drink my blood, you cannot be my disciple. In summary, though the salvation of the soul is free as duly paid for by the precious blood of Jesus the cost of discipleship is almost unattainable.

 

Who is it that wants to be a disciple that will not first sit down and count the cost, why? Once you have laid your hands on the plough, you cannot look back, else you would not be worthy of His kingdom.

 

MISSION

The work of the mission requires total consecration and dedication without looking back. Being completely sold and lost in the work of the master and the service of the Lord. Whosoever is called to be a MISSIONARY is to be fully equipped by the Blessed Holy Spirit for a lifetime assignment of which such fellow is dead to the world and the world is dead to him.

To say it with all sense of commitment, Missionaries are been trained to DIE for the CROSS. They put their lives in the line not minding what becomes of them when they go in search of souls from Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the uttermost part of the earth, becoming witnesses for the Lord, proclaiming, declaring and publicising the good tidings of the Gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

The mission work is a hazardous and delicate assignment because no man can determine what awaits him on the mission fields. Paul Apostle’s experiences in the bible days prepare us for what awaits all that want to go all the way in the direction of Mission/Cross-Cultural Anthropology.

Mission, in other words, is for the martyrs who must be willing to shed their blood readily for the soul to be saved. Knowing that there lies the crown of glory in heaven for the faithful stewards who endure to the end.

Habakkuk 2:1-3

says “I will stand upon my watch and set me upon the tower and I will watch to be what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved

(2)And the Lord answered me and said write the vision and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

(3) For the vision is yet for an appointed time but at the end, it shall speak, and not lie though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry”.

 

The greatest work and first assignment committed to the hand of the church is to save the perishing souls, to turn men away from darkness unto light, to deliver the nations from the impending penalty of death prophetically pronounced by God in His word and to convert the kingdoms of men into the kingdom of God and His Christ. All these are in volumes but put into a phrase in evangelism terminology –

THE GREAT COMMISSION. Yet the commission was given by the greatest man that ever lived for the greatest assignment to be executed by the greatest number of labourers possible for the greatest harvest of souls and duly backed up with the greatest promise ever made.

 

Therefore bringing souls to the kingdom of God or otherwise turning sinners to saints takes many processes and classifications. Yet, they are all pointing towards the direction of salvation.

The task is huge and broad considering it from the perspective of the three (3) major platforms which are: EVANGELISM, DISCIPLESHIP, and MISSION to the uttermost part of the world.
